Fact Or Fiction: Birth control pills make you gain weight?

Fiction: This is a HUGE concern amongst patients; especially my younger patients…..OCPs don’t make you gain weight! No more than the normal 5 pounds that most women gain due to hormonal changes that occur around the time of their menses. When patients start blaming the pill for weight gain, we immediately look to, what is likely, “the usual suspect”; i.e., lack of exercise and proper diet.
